Packaging examples

Some of the tub and pouch formats we fill, with the numbers a designer needs to lay out artwork. This is a selection rather than a full list, and we are building it out as we go.

Packaging is client-supplied. Tubs, lids and film stay yours, carrying your artwork and your supplier relationship. If you have not sourced packaging before, we are happy to source it for you and confirm it meets your scope — that way the spec is agreed before anything is committed to print.

Everything below is an example of what we have run or can source. If the format you need is not here, that is not a no — tell us what you are planning and we will find it.

Label artwork sizes are the measurement a designer actually works to. Container dimensions come from whoever makes the container — a supplier catalogue, or our own mould. Ask us and we will get them alongside the quote.

Before you print

What goes wrong with pouches

Pouch development fails in a small number of predictable ways, and nearly all of them surface after the artwork is printed.

Seals that do not seal

Sealing temperature, dwell and pressure are set per laminate structure, not per machine — a setting that works on one film will under-fuse the next. Powder dust settling in the seal zone at fill does the same thing, because the layers never touch. Trialling the seal on the actual structure, and keeping the seal zone clear as the bag fills, is what prevents it.

Bags that pop

Fill the bag to the brim and there is no headspace left to absorb anything — a pressure change in transit, or a pallet stacked one layer higher than planned, and the weakest seal is what gives. Setting fill weight and headspace against your bulk density, and choosing seal width for the route the freight actually takes, is what keeps them intact.

Air getting in

Either the barrier is wrong for the fill or there is a pinhole where the film folds at a gusset. Oils, probiotics and hygroscopic powders each need a different barrier, and when it is wrong you find out in month four, not on day one — the product oxidises or picks up moisture on the shelf. Matching the barrier spec to the formulation before the structure is committed is the only cheap point to fix it.

Artwork laid out to the wrong dieline

The commonest and the most expensive. The seal zone is not printable area — artwork running into it either delaminates or gets trimmed off. Use the dieline for the bag you are actually ordering, not one that looks similar.

Dimensions that measure differently at each end

A pouch quoted W × H × D can mean gusset flat or gusset expanded, and height with or without the zip. A 5 mm disagreement is a reprint. We confirm the convention with the converter before artwork starts.
